Dance offers so much to children: artistic expression, physical conditioning, self-confidence, teamwork, discipline, self-respect and best of all, the sheer exhilaration of moving beautifully to music.
When I was six years old, I dreamed that one day I’d teach dance in my own studio. Since 2005 I’ve been privileged to live my dream and share my love of dance with the now more than 450 children who every year dance for fun and competition at On Stage Dance.
In their daily lives, our children spend many hours passively in front of TV, computer and iPod screens. At On Stage, kids spend their class time learning to listen actively, to share space, to support their peers, and to see what real progress feels like – those big wall mirrors are there for a reason!
It’s a subtle kind of freedom for a young person to experience: our dancers learn how to be more themselves while being part of a bigger project.
And then there’s just the joy of being part of On Stage. Yes, we believe in dancing to the very best of your ability (and we work hard to help every child live up to their dance potential) but we believe that laughter is where we all live most—and there’s lots of that here at On Stage, because we’re having so much fun together.
